History of The Center
The Hellenic Cultural Center was established in
1985 in Queens , New York with the goal of cultivating the beautiful customs
and culture of Greece. When the center opened its doors for a variety of
lectures, performances, exgibits, and cultural gatherings, it fulfilled
the dream of His Eminence our Archbishop Iakovos and its founders.
The Hellenic Cultural Center's Theater has over 200 comfortable tilt back chairs a professional stages, sound, and musicians perform and lecturers out to the Greek community.
After each event, audiences gadther in the Hellenic Cultural Center's Hall to discuss the event and enjoy the paintings, drawings, sculptures, and other works, of art exhibited on its walls. The hall is also used for meetings, social events, and monthly luncheons offered to our senior citizens.
The Chapel of St. Kosmas
Our Chapel is the cornesstone of the Hellenic
Cultural Center building and has been dedicatesd to St. Kosma, who is not
only a Saint in our Greek Orthodox Church, but a patriotic Hellene, who
felt a burning fire in his heart for his country's culture and Hellenic
identity.
In the Chapel we offer our prayers, and live the sacramental life of our Church. Each Wednesday morning, during the ecclesiastical year, Priests celebrate Divine Liturgy and dedicate the Ssesrvice to the sick and those in need. Everyone is welcome to come to meditate, pray, and bring peace into their lives.
Purpose of The Center
The Hellenic Cultural Center provides the omogenia
a placce where artistic productions and meaningful presentations will promote
our ethnic, cultural and religious identity.
The Center encourages organizations and individuals to present programs to our young and old alike which support our haritage.
Let Us Think
Throughout the ages Hellenes have migrated to
other areas of the world to find a better life and achieve success. In
their new home, they have always live their Greek traditions and Orthodox
faith. their beliefs and life style Helped them survive and succeed in
their fields of endeavor.
We Hellenes strsongly believe that we can not achieve success without hard work, detication and ambition because there is no Resurrection without the Crucifixion.
The Executive Council of the Hellenic Cultural Center give their talent, knowledge and time, with zeal and enthusiasm to maintain the existence of the Center for the sake of preserving our heritage. But, they cannot do it alone. They need your help and support.
What Can You Do?
You can help by attending the events and programs
offered at the Center. In so doing, you will strengthen your Orthodox faith
and pride you feel for your Hellenic culture. Through your parsticipation
you can offer consrtuctive suggestions for the Center's use.
Your financial support is also needed for the building's maintenance and the productions offered by the Center. And finally, you can help by encouraging your association(s) or club(s) to utilize the facilities of The Hellenic Cultural Center for their next function..
